My Dibbles: A Unique Gift for Gardeners.

I know...you really want to know what dibbles are...right?
In reality, they are nothing but a sharp stick for poking a hole in the ground for planting bulbs and seeds.
The ones that I turn are a little fancier. Each one is slightly different, but they all have rings every inch for marking the depth of the hole in the ground.
Dibble: A pointed gardening implement used to make holes in soil, especially for planting bulbs or seedlings.
v. dib·bled, dib·bling, dib·bles
1. To make holes in (soil) with a pointed implement.
2. To plant by means of a pointed implement.

They have been around at least since Roman times, as they used an instrument quite similar to this one.

Tips for using for planting.

Planting seeds: Using the 1 inch graduated line markings, push it into the ground, to the depth desired, and then drag it along, making a furrow on your planting line. Be sure to maintain the proper depth.

Planting bulbs: Push it into the ground and twist it to the depth desired. As it turns it loosens the soil.

They can also be used for dividing perennials.

Care and Feeding: Simply wipe off your dibble with a damp cloth and dry it.

Just a short note: All of the the Apricot is from a tree that fell on my house 19 years ago and I'm still getting even with it!
